Here are some interesting finds on UI/UX of the week!

1.

Management Styles of Emotionally Intelligent Leaders. Very interesting article hailing from Fast Company, showcasing not just mindful strategies to keep in mind when navigating these uncertain times, but also how these strategies marry perfectly with emotional intelligence. The article focuses on aspects such as Situational Awareness, Organization’s Direction, Collaboration and Flexibility, some of which are actually very similar to the core identifiers of long lasting brands (self awareness, principles, focus, deliberate, adaptive). Well worth a read. Highlight of the article includes:

“Use data to inform your company’s priorities and communicate those priorities to employees. According to a 2021 survey, data drives only 24% of companies‘ efforts, which means you’ll gain a competitive edge just by integrating data into your goal-setting and establishing connections between past, present, and future events. Use real-time data sets to guide your organization’s focus. Annual reports are insightful, but sometimes they’re not enough: Any market research released prior to March 2020 rapidly became outdated because of the pandemic. In a highly disruptive environment, favor speed over breadth. Your employees can propel your company forward when they have timely, actionable directions.

2.

Remote/Office/Hybrid Work Strategies. Great reflection on the future of work arrangements, as we continue to navigate uncertain times. This article hailing from Inc., weighs the pros and cons of each scenario, providing pertinent considerations to be mindful of when it comes to each one of them. This becomes particularly more relevant as the technology which powers collaboration gets more sophisticated, credible, efficient and globally available. Highlight of the article includes:

“The benefits of a fully remote model are apparent — being completely virtual allows companies to save on office space and in-office technology, such as remote-friendly conference rooms and office servers. In addition, remote work can give employees the flexibility they didn’t know they craved, allowing them to set a better schedule for themselves, be more productive without the distractions of an office, and be more present outside work. However, companies shouldn’t be replicating all their in-person workflows, meeting routines, and management approaches in a newly virtual organization. Instead, the best remote companies help their employees engage and collaborate while working from home, share strategies to help their people manage a remote workday, and invest in employee necessities by offering laptops, office-supply reimbursements, or high-speed wireless subsidization.”

3.

Password Reset Emails. Very relevant and thorough article from DesignModo and author Nataly Birch on the topic of Password Reset Emails. Emails are one of the most powerful means of communication with users, and this specific type of transactional email, plays a significant role in further cementing the relationship between a potential/existing user and the brand/product itself. The article thoroughly details everything from the Subject of the Message, to best practices to its body, also highlighting the different types of reset password emails that exist. Well worth the read. Highlight of the article includes:

“As one of the most compact and minimal newsletters, the password reset email is a piece of few words. Traditionally, it had just one thing — a link to the reset page. However, everything is not that simple. In 2021, every email design should comply with the laws and regulations as well as provide the best user experience for all groups of people. Therefore, one link is not enough to meet current standards. Like any other email, it should also advocate the brand and overall marketing campaign. Therefore, there is quite a list of essential elements.”
